About us
What do we offer you?
The North Bristol Post 16 Centre was formed in 2007, combining the Cotham School post 16 centre at Charnwood House with the new one at Redland Green School, a quarter of a mile down the road. The two learning communities are a 10 minute walk apart and have a student population of 850 students.
We offer a high quality learning experience at the North Bristol Post 16 Centre. The results for the academic year 2008/09 were excellent, with the first group of students to go though the new centre doing brilliantly. The majority of our Year 13 students progressed to university with 7 gaining places at Oxford and Cambridge.
We offer a wide range of courses with over 45 level 3 courses and a number of level 2 courses, so it is very likely you will be able to study your first choice of subjects.
On top of this, the breadth of our courses is supported with superb facilities. We have three learning resource centres across the two sites and here you will find personal computers, internet connection, DVDs, periodicals, newspapers and text books…in fact, everything you would expect to help you complete your assignments.
Every post 16 student belongs to a tutor group. Your tutor will take a special interest in your academic progress and your general well-being. They are led in this by the Assistant Headteacher responsible for post 16 in each learning community, and by the Student Services Leader. Throughout your course, we will review your progress with you through the use of target grades and course reviews. We will always offer you support if you encounter problems at any time throughout your course.
There is a post 16 common room at each learning community where you will be able to meet friends and relax, particularly at break and lunchtime. Refreshments are available from the coffee bar located within each common room. Everyone who joins our centre is automatically a member of the student union, which is formally linked to the National Union of Students. This body ensures that your views are heard, respected and if possible, acted upon.
