Governors

A governing body is accountable to parents/carers, the local authority and ultimately the Department for Children and Young People.  Governors are responsible for the general conduct of the school. They take an interest in all aspects of the life of the school and ensure that the school provides a curriculum which is in line with the local authority's general policies.  Governors are also active outside the framework of formal meetings.  They take part in working parties alongside teachers to study various aspect of the school's provision and regularly report back to the governing body.

The governing body (using the title of the North Bristol Post 16 Committee) for the North Bristol Post 16 Centre is composed of governors from all five partner schools, two post 16 students who are associate governors and other governors who reflect a wide range of community groups.  This enables the partner schools to be involved in the strategic direction of the post 16 centre and to monitor its work.  Meetings are held six times each year at Cotham School and Redland Green School alternatively.  The day-to-day running of the post 16 centre is led by the director and the two headteachers who together form the Post 16 Executive Group.  The executive group is accountable for the performance of the post 16 centre to the governing body.

Although the composition of the governing body reflects a wide range of community groups, members have a collective responsibility for decisions made. As such, individual members are unable to act as a representative for anyone in an individual case.

North Bristol Post 16 Centre governors are always pleased to receive comments and observations from parents/carers. In order to facilitate this, any of the governors can be contacted via either learning community.
