Review: Support Bristol's talent
Dance is self expression, exercise and a way of letting go. Dance is not a 'sob' story. Sob stories make great TV but create many misconceptions of what dance is all about. It is inevitable that there are some outliers to my view but I have witnessed nor experienced suffering to get where I am today with dance.
Synergy is a Bristol based street dance crew formed by no reasons other than a passion and love for dance. We consist of many different ages and backgrounds and the name came from what we stand for - people working together to make something better than an individual's effort.
Since September 2008 we have been doing exactly that - working together to make something incredible. Having to fund the crew ourselves we rehearse where ever we can. If we can't afford a studio...Gloucester Road has suited us on many occasions! When rehearsals near the early hours of the morning the drunkards never fail to keep spirits high!
In the passed year Synergy has longed to enter bigger competitions but most required a sob story. I think it is up to Bristol to turn this tradition around. We need to celebrate and recognise raw talent as oppose to sympathising with a contiguous sob story! We have entered many competitions, the biggest being UDO National Street Dance Championships in which we were representing Bristol, yet Bristol was oblivious! I always love seeing fellow Bristolians in the media - Justin Lee Collins being a prime example. I think it's time community groups spoke out - I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in hearing about Bristol's talent and supporting it for that matter!
