School news: new school hall

At Cotham School we take great pride in our performances.  We are encouraged to audition and join with people from every year group to put on the annual production. In the past we have done 'Fame', West Side Story' and ' Guys and Dolls'. As you may have heard our latest show 'Anything Goes' was a brilliant success but unfortunately due to the main stage being not nearly large enough we had to perform it in the dance studio.  There are a number of faults with this.  Probably most importantly there is a very limited space backstage and voices do not carry very well in the room making it very hard to be heard without straining your voice.  The audience cannot see and the lights don't work!

Having somewhere where we can be proud to perform would be so great as pride in performance is an important life skill.  It builds confidence which is used in everyday life and gives a sense of achievement to everyone who has taken part.

We have already raised £60k.  This is thanks to local businesses, parents and students.  We have been busy organising various events: cake and sweet stalls and non school uniform days to mention just a few.  We are organising at the moment a fundraising music gig for the school's rising bands and singers.  But we still have quite a way to go.  We need to raise  £80,000 to get to our target!

If you would like to contribute any ideas or money to the school then please contact us on info@cotham.bristol.sch.uk   or ring 0117 919 8000.
