Why should I follow this course?

This course is a way of demonstrating that you have broadened your academic study. It helps you to make connections across subject disciplines and gives you wider knowledge of the world around you, covering issues such as scientific controversy, politics, climate change, land ownership, the legal system, and social change. It encourages you to think critically about a range of issues that are significant in today's society, including multiculturalism, green politics, fair trade, and human rights. All students take this course as part of their tutor programme.

What teaching and learning methods will be used?

Discussion, debate, independent research and group work will be the main learning approaches used in general studies. You need to watch the news, read a newspaper, and have an opinion!

What can I do when I have my qualification?

A good AS level in general studies is regarded as an indicator of success in higher education courses. Several universities include general studies in their offers and in some highly competitive courses, success in this subject may be a crucial element in the selection process.
