GCSE Music grade 4.

The expectation is that you should have achieved at least a grade 4 in performance.  My March of the second year of A level, you should be performing at least at grade 7

Why should I follow this course?

You should follow this course if you are a musician who has a broad interest in music, and you enjoy and want to develop skills in performance, composition, harmony and listening and analysing. This course provides an excellent basis for lifelong learning and for higher education courses in music.

 

What will you learn?

You will experience and develop skills in all three main musical disciplines of performing, composing, and listening and appraising. Performance skills will be developed through solo and ensemble work; you will have opportunities to compose music and learn about harmony.

You will also develop your aural and analytical skills by studying 18 set works of music (including music by Mozart, Berlioz, Danny Elfman, Courtney Pine, Beatles, John Cage, Miles Davis, Debussy and more) in addition to wider listening.

 

What learning and teaching methods will be used? Group and solo performance work, teacher-led activities, personal research, composition tutorials, public performance opportunities and discussion work.

 

What can I do with my qualification? The full course is excellent preparation for higher education courses in music, but is equally valuable for non-specialists as a second or third area of study. The course will enable you to extend the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to communicate through music, allowing you to access music related and other careers. You will be able to engage in, and extend your appreciation of the diverse and dynamic heritage of music, promoting spiritual and cultural development and enabling you to develop particular strengths and interests.

 

What minimum qualifications will I need?

NBP16C level 3 entry requirement, including grade 4 in GCSE Music. Have achieved Grade 6 (or perform at an equivalent standard) in any instrument. The expectation is you will perform at Grade 7 standard by March of the second year of the A level. The ability to read staff notation.
