Director's Welcome

Welcome to our website. The North Bristol Post 16 Centre is for students in the 16-19 age range, and provides a variety of GCE Advanced (AS and A2) courses, the Cambridge Pre U and BTEC pathways. We are delighted that you have decided to find out about the post 16 experience we can offer you in our two learning communities at Cotham School and Redland Green School. By being one Centre, based over two sites, we can offer you a very broad range of courses and superb facilities. We have an excellent record of success at the Centre.

It is very hard to convey the quality of the facilities and the friendly, vibrant atmosphere of the Centre – the best thing to do is to visit us at our Open Evening or on one of our Open Afternoons and find out for yourself how exciting it feels. If you are a student at Fairfield, Henbury, Oasis Brightstowe, Orchard, Redland Green or Cotham schools then this is your post 16 centre; over 70% of our applications come from our partner schools. We also attract applicants from the wider Bristol area and further afield.

We are a centre of academic excellence; this year we had a pass rate of 99% at GCE advanced level, and were above the national pass rate for our A*-B grades. Our BTEC results are also very good. Perhaps more importantly than this, our value added scores are good with students generally doing better than their entry qualifications would predict. Over 90% of our students go on to university. Our pass rate in two or more facilitating subjects is also above national averages.

We are of course very proud of this, however we also know that our students enjoy the distinctive environment that our Post 16 Centre provides. There is more to education, in the broadest sense than simple examination results. We endeavour to give you a wealth of other opportunities and experiences that will help you throughout your life and career.

You will learn to take more responsibility for your own welfare and progress. You will learn how to learn. We do this through a supportive framework and if anything does start to go wrong, we will pick it up very quickly and help you to put things right. Our tutorial and academic support is at the heart of the Centre.

The Centre offers you a wide curriculum with a broad range of subject choices, packaged to suit you as an individual. In addition to your main programme you will take part in a range of enrichment activities. The most special feature of the Centre is its feeling of community. This is a place where students and staff respect each other. We believe in working hard towards a common goal; that every individual should fulfil her or his potential, and then achieve just a little bit more.
