First days are often daunting, but with our student ambassadors on hand to help and it was more a day of getting to know each other, than hard work.

Our talks to students  reinforced the message that acceptance to the North Bristol Post 16 Centre was no guarantee of success and that high grades are the result of motivation, hard work and resilience. Qualities we expect from all of our students.  Our students now carry our key ring with the following growth mindset motto: “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90%  how you react to it”.

Students spent a part of the  day in their tutor bases getting to know their new tutor and fellow tutor group members, by engaging in ice breaking activities. This requires teams of students to build a tower from newspapers and sellotape to a height of 1m that can free stand for up to a minute. Few achieve this lofty aim, though many had a good try and there were some amazing constructions across both learning communities (some purely aesthetic and others, major feats of engineering).

It was a fun way for students to get to know each other in their learning communities - but of course, the real hard work of building on their GCSE grades begins in earnest now as their A level courses commence.
