North Bristol Post 16 Centre Celebrates Outstanding A-level results

Congratulations to our A level students on another set of outstanding results!

Students at the North Bristol Post 16 Centre celebrated outstanding successes in today’s A-level and AS level results, marking yet another year of excellent academic and personal achievements for students at the Centre. The pass rate was 99.5% with a record number of students achieving A grades in all of their subjects.

Highlights of the results:

  • 99.5% pass rate
  • A third of all entries were graded A*/A
  • 75 students gained straight A/A* in all their A-levels
  • Over 140 students gained at least ABB – the qualifying grades for Russell Group universities
  • 62.5% of all entries achieved high grades A*-B
  • 32 subjects had a 100% pass rate
  • 55 students studied for BTEC level 3 courses with a 100% pass rate, and 51% achieved distinction or distinction *, which is equivalent to a B or A grade at A level.

  • 14 students will be taking up their offers of places at Oxford and Cambridge
  •  9 students will begin courses in medicine and dentistry

Marian Curran, Director of the Centre, said, "I am really delighted that for another year running our students and staff have worked hard to achieve these superb results. We are extremely pleased with the outstanding progress all our students have made due to excellent teaching at the Centre. In 33 subjects there was a 100% pass rate, 66 students achieved straight A*-A’s in all their A-levels and 14 students will be taking up their offers of places at Oxford and Cambridge and 9 students will begin courses in medicine and dentistry. 34% of students’ grades were in facilitating subjects, which means they are eligible for Russell group universities.  Students also secured top university places such as Bristol, Manchester, Cardiff, and Exeter amongst others. Students were also highly successful in their BTEC courses, securing a 100% pass rate with over three quarters of grades falling between D* and Merit. All our students achieved grades that have enabled them to take up places at their first choice higher education destination, this is partly down to the excellent information, advice and guidance that is provided by the Centre on post 18 options.  This year we have also seen a rise in the number of students achieving outstanding results, which have enabled them to gain places on competitive and highly prestigious Apprentice schemes.  These results demonstrate that the Centre is continuously providing high quality education to all students in Bristol and the wider Bristol area and more importantly that students feel challenged and supported to achieve their very best.”

In Further Maths, Performing Arts, Government and Politics, Chemistry, Music, Psychology, English Literature, Biology, French and Spanish the results were outstanding with over 70% of students gaining A*-B grades. Mathematics and science represent 1 in 4 of all entries. The results in these subjects were a real strength of the centre, reflecting the specialisms of the two schools.

We want to congratulate all our students and wish them well as they take up their places at university, employment, or begin their gap year.
