School News: Expanded School is alot to Look Forward to
Since last early last year, half of Cotham School became a building site for work on a spanking new block to expand our learning environment. The foundations are laid and what we as students get to see is the beginnings of almost a completely new school. Speaking to the schools project manager Mr Wride I learnt more and more about the shaping of what seems to be, almost a new beginning, (or possibly a facelift?) for the ex-grammar school founded in the early 20th century.
The decorative main building (part of the original school complex) will be given over to Modern Foreign Languages, Humanities, English and Maths during its 'light refurbishment'. Meaning, to the joy of its department, that Science will get a whole new look in the new building along with Art, DT, Photography, Textiles and Geography, not to mention the 'student hub area'.
But what, I hear you say, are they doing to be green? Heating and watering a building of this size will take a toll on the environment. But not with a Biomass boiler. No idea what that is? Me either, however Mr Wride kindly informed me that this is a carbon neutral boiler that will be fuelled with wood chippings and is a source of renewable energy, I may have also 'Googled' it... As well as this they will be collecting 'grey water' in rain tanks for toilets etc.
It seems they have thought of everything and with the completion date currently standing at the 28 May it's a lot to look forward to, especially because from year 7 I was sure that the tech block may have collapsed on me. At least the next year the new students won't have that to worry about.
