Science BTEC Level 2
Awarding Body | Edexcel |
Assessment Structure | Mixture of Internal coursework and an external exam. |
Minimum entry requirement | 4 x GCSE at grade 3 (or above), including English language and mathematics. |
Why should I study this course?
If you would like to study all 3 sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and like working on big written projects this is the course for you. The format of the course means it is broken down into more manageable chunks than the science GCSE and you only have to learn the content for the 1 exam: for the coursework you will develop different skills: in researching the topics and writing them up.
What will I learn?
It covers a selection of science topics similar to those you studied at GCSE. There are fewer topics than your GCSE science but in more detail. It includes 1 exam with parts of each science, and 3 research projects: Chemistry & our Earth, Energy & our Universe and Biology & our Environment.
How will I learn?
The course is a mixture of classic classroom teaching and writing up coursework independently. You will need to be able to concentrate in class, revise for the exam and work independently on your coursework. It is also really important that you can meet deadlines.
What can I do with my qualification?
When you have successfully completed this course you may progress to either A level courses at the centre or elsewhere, or to BTEC Level 3 courses. For Level 3 progression you will need to achieve a MM in this course. This course is also excellent preparation for employment or training.
What do students say?
This is a new qualification at NBP16 for September 2021 and we look forward to sharing our students' experiences with you!
