Why should I study this course?

GCSE English is a basic requirement for nearly all walks of life. It will be graded using a numerical grading scale of 9–1. GCSE English is an entry requirement for many jobs and careers and for most university and college courses.

What will I learn?

You will develop your ability to communicate effectively via speech and writing. You will improve your personal writing style and the accuracy of your own writing.

This course is a fast track GCSE. You will be assessed through two written examinations:

PAPER 1: FICTION: Explorations into creative reading and writing:
1 hr 45 minutes. 50%

PAPER 2: NON-FICTION:  Writers’ viewpoints and perspectives.
1 hr 45 minutes. 50%

Speaking and Listening will be separately endorsed.

How will I learn?

This course takes up less time than an A level. It is one intensive year. You will receive supportive teaching leading to active learning of both papers. You will be expected to re-visit skills for each paper and practise them via past papers. Many students improve on past performances and achieve grade 4 or 5.

What can I do with my qualification?

Gaining a grade 4 or above will enable you to apply for Level 3 courses if you have not yet been able to access this level of study. It is also a basic requirement for most degree courses and employment opportunities.

What do students say?

“Make sure you attend 100% and work hard and the reward will be a grade 4 or above”

“ Finally it all clicked into place; plenty of re-visiting of past papers meant I really got to know the exam formulae for each question”
